Tsiknopempti (Smokey Thursday) Masquerade Party
The Mardi Gras (Carnival) season in Greece is made up of three themed weeks of celebration. The first week is dedicated to preparations ‘The Pre-announcement Week’, the second week is dedicated to meat ‘The Meat Week’ and the third week is dedicated to cheese ‘The Cheese Week’.
Tsiknopempti (Smokey Thursday) Festival is held on the Thursday of second week of Mardi Gras and represents a highlight in a weeklong celebration of meat consumption.
The festivities on Tsiknopempti revolve around Masquerade Parties where massive amounts of meat are grilled or roasted, with live music and lots of dancing.
This year, we will celebrate the Tsiknopempti (Smokey Thursday) with a Masquerade Party on the 7th of March serving many traditional delicacies and dancing to live Greek music.
