Tsiknopempti Festival At The Jekyll & Hyde
The Mardi Gras (carnival) season in Greece is made up of three themed weeks of celebration. The first week is dedicated to preparations ‘The Preannouncement Week’, the second week is dedicated to meat ‘The Meat Week’ and the third week is dedicated to cheese ‘The Cheese Week’.
Tsiknopempti (Smokey Thursday) festival is held on the Thursday of second week of Mardi Gras and represents a highlight in a weeklong celebration of meat consumption. The festivities on Tsiknopempti revolve around parties where massive amounts of meat are grilled or roasted, with live music and lots of dancing
This year, we will celebrate the Tsiknopempti (Smokey Thursday) Festival on the 24th of February at The Jekyll and Hyde, A33 Reading – Basingstoke Rd, RG27 0AX, serving many traditional delicacies and dancing to live Greek music.
